In this series, we have discussed the importance of cognitive, strategic thinking, linked with your spiritual life. We have discussed how they mesh together to result in powerful, effective decision making. Now, the question we want to answer is: why? Why does the pastor need to focus on acting and not just praying? Afterall, spiritual emphasis should be the primary focus, right? Right! With this said, spiritual direction and guidance is not helpful unless you do something about it! The pastor needs to act.
Consider the last time God spoke to you very clearly. Did God have a purpose in speaking to you? The answer is absolutely yes. If God has a purpose for his teaching, guidance, and direction, how can we foster it? What is our role as leaders pertaining to the divine direction of the Holy Spirit? Acting on God’s guidance is a practice that seems simple enough. With that said, it can be tempting to dwell in the glorious feeling of God’s direction, while forgetting to act on it.
When it comes down to it, acting on spiritual guidance is a culture that you must set. First off, you have to identify how you can improve in this personally. After that, it is time to inspire the rest of the church to listen to the Holy Spirit and act accordingly. How can you do this? What can you do to foster the influence you have to ensure that spiritual guidance is acted upon?
A pastor who does not act cannot lead a successful, fruitful church. The implications of inaction can cause massive problems logistically and spiritually. Every event, service, conversation, and situation requires spiritually guided action.
