Navigating Church Culture Outside my Church

Culture is defined as the beliefs and customs of a society, group, place, or time. Every place and organization retains a culture. All families, business entities, and churches have a culture. Your church culture may not mirror most of the other churches in the world around you. But the culture in the church world (Big C) is perpetually shifting around us.

How your church responds to external church forces is heavily influenced by your leadership. Conversely, the faith communities around you may respond to your church and local church leaders, sometimes in a critical manner. Is your church, under your leadership, going to move with every Big C cultural shift, every societal shift, or will you pledge to remain true when scripture and conscience tell you to hold steady? Denominations have been decreasing in size, due in part to shifts in doctrine when pressured by a shift in societal norms.

This video examines seven things to consider when the church world (Big C) shifts around you. God still wants to move and make Jesus known around the globe, and He will speak to us when we feel concerned about shifting norms around us. God’s Word is full of examples of how he worked on behalf of His people when the culture encountered fundamental transformations. This segment also builds confidence in God’s purpose when we look to His Word for guidance. We can be a student of the Word or a follower of world trends.

God’s Word does not change with shifting societal trends. This video explains why it is imperative that we understand the external shifting culture. It also delineates a thought process designed to help us press in to seizing the opportunities, rather than shying away from our changing mission field. The harvest may feel daunting, but our mission has not changed. God will help us when we acknowledge that He is much bigger than the 50 or 70 years of our leadership influence here on Earth.
