In this two-part addition to the Leading Yourself series, we are covering the topic of emotions. This is a fundamental topic within church leadership. As a leader, emotions can be used for inspiration, motivation, and effective ministry. On the other hand, they can also be a catalyst for discouragement and inefficiency. There is no greater joy than experiencing the divine calling that the Lord placed on your heart! So, why are we not happy all the time? Here, we are discussing how to utilize your emotions for effective leadership rather than letting them control you.

Your emotions can be complex and difficult to figure out. They can take you to the highest places and the lowest ones in terms of how you feel. Emotions have immense power in our lives. Each person reacts differently to certain emotions, but we can all learn to control our behavior because of them. So, what do emotions do to us? How do they affect us? Why are they important, not just to feel, but to understand? We want to help you understand the effects of emotions in your life and leadership.

We believe that when you understand what emotions do, you will be able to control how you respond to them. Understanding what they do allows you to see the consequences of letting them control you. On the other hand, this will also let you see the potential motivation and effectiveness your emotions can bring.

Every leader experiences emotions, but not every leader knows how to lead them. What happens when you take your emotions captive? How can you begin to make your emotions work for you, rather than against you?
