Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to have 30 hours in a day? I mean, just think of what you could do ministry-wise. Well, those hours don’t exist, but a way to do more and better ministry in the real 24 hours does exist. And we’re going to show you how in today’s Church Tips episode. Here we go.

Dick Hardy 0:21
Over the last couple of weeks, I personally, at my house have been doing some kitchen remodel, and we had some people coming in to get new kitchen cabinets and all that. We also redid our bathroom at our house and being the cheap guy that I am, I’m trying to figure out how to do some of the plumbing on my own. Now, I’ll say at the outset here, I’m not a plumber, nor the son of a plumber. That’s one thing you never did pass along.

Dick Hardy 0:47
I never passed that along.

Jonathan Hardy 0:48
So, but hopefully, we’ll stop that curse. I’ll pass it on to the generations to come there. But I guess I’ll do that. I’ll do my part.

Dick Hardy 0:55
You’ll do your part. Yeah.

Jonathan Hardy 0:56
You know, one of the things I realized and you know this to be true, is how powerful YouTube is and the benefit of being able to learn something quickly, and how much time it can save you. And so, of course, you know, I’m YouTubing some videos and before long, I get the whole bathroom all put together. I got the plumbing, the drain, and all this. And you know, I didn’t learn this before.

Jonathan Hardy 1:15
So, I’m just being a little vulnerable here. You may know this stuff already and say, “Oh, that’s obvious stuff.” But for me, I didn’t know it. And so, with a little bit of learning, I was able to get a lot done quickly, because I just took a quick few minutes to watch some videos. I learned a ton, rather than trying to figure it out on my own, rather than, you know, trying to blaze my own path and figure out how to do this thing. I was able to just quickly learn it and save a lot of time on the long haul, because of that quick investment on the front end.

Jonathan Hardy 1:44
And that’s what we want to talk to you about today as it relates to you and your time, specifically to to ministry. Because there are some things you can do to do more ministry and better ministry, without having to use more of your time and so, this really you know, kind of helps us as we are looking to be better as pastors, be better as ministry leaders. Because the more we look to shave time and to do better ministry, the better we’re going to be personally, but also the better the church is gonna be.

Dick Hardy 2:12
Exactly. You know, a couple of the episodes that we’ve had just in the last few days was episode number 50, where we talked through the number one reason why you need to develop leaders ASAP. And that was a great episode that really challenged some assumptions that a lot of pastors have. And then episode 52, the key to avoid ministry burnout, and that just drilled right into the reality of ministry burnout, and what you can do to avoid the major key to do that.

Dick Hardy 2:43
And also, but for this episode, we want to talk to you about the two ways that you can actually do more and better ministry. I mean, as a pastor, you want to do more. Your heart’s desire is to reach more people and to penetrate your culture. But you look and you say, Man, I got 24 hours a day. Yeah, I’ve got all these things I’m juggling. How in the world do I do that?

Jonathan Hardy 3:09
Well, the first way, can I jump in and share the first?

Dick Hardy 3:11
Of course.

Jonathan Hardy 3:12
The first way to do that is, is to find your 80/20. So, that’s kind of the way I articulate it. Basically, you’re familiar with the Pareto principle. Most people are, which is, you know, 80% of the work can get done by 20% of the people. Or, you know, whatever, 80% of something is accomplished by 20% of something. So, the idea here is that 80% of the things that you need to do ministry wise, can be tackled with 20% of your energy and time and focus.

Jonathan Hardy 3:43
And so, what we need to do then, as ministry leaders is figure out, well, what are those things that are going to give us that, that greater leverage? So, how can we use our time, our energy to get the best result, the biggest result possible,

Dick Hardy 3:57
And I’m gonna bet a number of pastors watching or listening to this podcast right now, they’re doing 80% of the work. They’re pouring in all their time. They want others around them. They want these other leaders, but they either don’t have them. They haven’t developed them. They haven’t taken time to develop them or it’s been a start-stop thing. So, how does a person get to an 80/20?

Jonathan Hardy 4:25
So, yeah. So, the key is you have to figure out what are the things that only you should be doing? And what are the things that need to get passed off to someone else? And I recognize sometimes people like to do certain things. But just because you like to do it doesn’t mean that’s maybe the best use of your time. So, it’s coming to the grips with just the reality of are these things the best things that I need to do? Is this what’s going to help the ministry it’s not what I like to do.

Jonathan Hardy 4:50
I mean, we’re not in ministry, because ‘I want to be in ministry’. It’s because God wants us to do it. He wants to use us to make a difference. We’re doing it to to help other people. So, if we’re trying, say you’re the lead pastor of a church, if you want to see more people come. You want to reach more people. You want the church to grow. Well, are there things that you’re doing that you might need to stop doing? And you might need to hand off to somebody else.

Jonathan Hardy 5:12
Now, to do that, that means you have to, as you mentioned, you have to have the leaders in place. We talked about that, about the reason to be developing leaders, ASAP. It’s because you want to be prepared for the people that God’s going to bring. And so again, as Dick mentioned, make sure to check out episode 50 if you haven’t done so yet.

But the idea is, you have to have these leaders in place, to be able to hand off these things, that even if you like doing them, aren’t maybe the best use of your time. So that your time, your best energy, your best focus, your best work is done on the things that’s going to get you 80%.

Dick Hardy 5:25
And let me address the kind of person that you might be that says, “Nobody can do it quite as good as I do it.” Okay, and maybe it’s something you really like to do. Let me tell you. Leaders of churches that are growing, are willing to accept something being done at, pick a number, at 80%, 70%, 90% of what you would do, in order to allow them to do it for you to get on about the business of the things that only you can do.

Dick Hardy 6:17
And that’s exactly the kind of thing that Jonathan is drilling in on. There are certain things that only you can do. But I’m gonna tell you, there’s a boatload of things that other people could do.

Jonathan Hardy 6:26
Yeah.

Dick Hardy 6:26
And they might not be quite as good as you. That’s fine. You’ve got to let them do it. And then you’re gonna see good things happen.

Jonathan Hardy 6:33
Well, that reminds me of Jo, unless you remember, she’s a pastor in Oklahoma.

Dick Hardy 6:37
Yep. Yep.

Jonathan Hardy 6:38
And she’s one of our leaders.church members. So, she told us about how she’s using the leaders.church material, actually to invest in, not only in her personally, but to invest in her team. She’s trying to develop these people. She’s trying to increase their capacity as leaders. And to your point, she said that what she’s noticed and seeing is they’re now, invested. They’re now doing the same 80/20 concept that she was trying.

Jonathan Hardy 7:05
So, she’s trying to offload to give to give her the ability to use her time wisely to get the 80% accomplished with only 20%. Well, now they’re replicating it. Yeah, they’re doing the same thing with their teams of people that they have.

Dick Hardy 7:19
Which is just exactly what you want to have happen.

Jonathan Hardy 7:21
Exactly.

Dick Hardy 7:21
Yeah.

Dick Hardy 7:21
And so, the key is you have to figure out what are those 80/20s for you? And every person is different. You’re wired differently. So, you got to figure out what is it for you?

Dick Hardy 7:29
You know, another thing you’ve talked about, Jonathan, is you’ve talked about collapsing time. And, you know, I’ve just found this to be a fascinating concept. And there’s some complexity to it, but then it’s also very, very simple. So, talk just a little bit about that.

Jonathan Hardy 7:42
Well, it kind of goes back to just my simple YouTube and plumbing situation. You know, I was able to learn a lot in a short amount of time, because I was able to pull up on my phone, a quick YouTube video, you know, try and do a little trial and error. I didn’t have to run to some class. I didn’t have to run to, you know, the plumbing school. I didn’t enroll in the plumbing school.

Dick Hardy 8:03
Or in the local community college to learn how to do all that.

Jonathan Hardy 8:05
So, basically this whole collapsing time concept, is how can I learn as much as I can in as short a period of time as I can? And you know, you’ve got to figure out, how can you do that? So that you can, you know, lead better, make decisions quicker, be more confident as a leader, and move the ministry forward. And advance what God has called you to do at your church. And when you are learning like that, just like I was learning.

You know, I just boom, I busted that thing out in a night. And I didn’t have, well I had one small issue, but beside that. That doesn’t fit the illustration.

Dick Hardy 8:42
But I mean, the point is, the issue of collapsing time. We’ve got pastors and church leaders who have become part of leaders.church to do that very thing. To realize they can become better leaders in a shorter period of time, if they’ll make the investment in themselves. And that’s why over these last few days, it all started back here almost a week ago with episode 49. I’d really encourage you to go watch, listen to Episode 49, where we walk through the entirety of what the new alignment of offerings is coming out of leaders.church for you.

Dick Hardy 9:18
For you to be better, for you to break barriers, to grow yourself, grow the church. And if you’ll go to leaders.church/grandfather, you’ll be able to get everything that’s listed on that page for the original price of $37 a month.

Dick Hardy 9:35
On September 4, everything changes, the pricing structure changes and it’s all for the good but it’s it’s expanding, and and we’re creating categories that are larger, that of course there’ll be requiring larger investment, but for today, and up through midnight on September third, you can get everything on there that even the, there’s a standard, advanced, and premium membership and you get everything including the premium membership for the original price of $37. I mean, it’s a steal of a deal.

Dick Hardy 10:06
And now is the time for you to take advantage of that. And you’ll be able to do what these other pastors who have done in collapsing time and saying, “Why do I need to reinvent this, when there’s a source like leaders.church that can help me do it? Yeah, in a shorter period of time.

Jonathan Hardy 10:20
Right. So, the key is find your 80/20s and collapse time. These are the two ways that’s going to help you do more and better ministry without more of your time. And that’s what we want, to be able to leverage our time wisely and make the most of the opportunity that we have.

Dick Hardy 10:35
Absolutely. So again, for the leaders.church membership, we’d encourage you to go to leaders.church/grandfather, and you can jump in and grab the resource. Again, we described it all on episode 49. And just to make a note here to you. It’s an easy 30-day money back guarantee. You know, if it doesn’t work for you, if it’s not a fit for you, just let us know. We’ll refund your money. But otherwise, jump in, get started. No contracts, no long term commitment. Cancel any time.

It really is so easy. We designed it that way because we want it to work for you. So, anything else, Jonathan?
