With every difficult task, there are always ditches you can fall into. These “ditches” are practices or mindsets that we get into that limit our ability to be effective. Perhaps you can remember back to high school or college when you had a big test coming up. If you are anything like most other students, the ditch of distraction and bad time management can hinder your ability to pass. Similarly, there are many ditches that a pastor or church leader can fall into. Here, we are going to unpack two of these ditches as they pertain to leadership verses management in ministry.
The first ditch to be aware of is the leadership ditch. The leadership ditch is something that a lot of pastors struggle with. This requires a lot of intentionality to dig yourself out of. When it comes to the leadership ditch, we want to address the large number of pastors that struggle with this. Once you understand the leadership ditch and how it works, you can assess yourself and avoid it when necessary. What is the leadership ditch and how can you recognize it? The second ditch is the management ditch. This ditch is sort of the opposite of the previous one, but equally detrimental to your ministry. Again, this is a ditch that is difficult to dig yourself out of it you are not careful.
