Metrics can prove to be a positive tool or a negative one depending on how you use them. Pastors and church leaders who become overly infatuated with metrics can begin to lose focus on the important things. This can lead to an obsession with numbers, making the church more of a self-help effort rather than a Kingdom-centered initiative. However, when metrics are applied correctly, they can propel the Church to new heights in terms of the call that God has placed on it. When it comes to missions giving, understanding which specific metrics to measure is crucial. Here, we are looking at the specific metrics a church should embrace and value when attempting to inspire missions giving.

You may be thinking that numbers do not matter and the only thing that matters is if your congregation is giving faithfully. While this is true to a certain extent, using metrics to see the status of how your church is doing in terms of generosity helps you gauge what you should be communicating. Additionally, metrics are a great way to measure progress over a long period of time. Celebrating progress in generosity as a church is a great way to inspire more growth in generosity.

While that is true, it is not simply enough to recognize the need for metrics, because there are certain metrics that you should measure and certain ones that you should not. As a pastor, it can be easy to become infatuated with numbers. We would encourage you not to become infatuated, but to value numbers from a productive standpoint. How can pastors and church leaders use metrics to inspire further generosity? What are the specific metrics that a church should look at in terms of giving?
