As a spiritual leader and pastor, there are always going to be opportunities to improve certain facets or practices in the church. This is an entirely encouraging reality until it involves a difficult situation that the pastor may face. Those difficult situations are not exclusive to churches, rather they are present in business settings and other scenarios. While this is true, handling these types of situations effectively is especially important in the context of church leadership. It all has to do with the pastor and courage.
How could an opportunity for improvement or correction be a difficult thing? For example, when a staff member is participating in something that does not align with the vision of the church, you have the opportunity to correct that situation. While this is an opportunity for betterment in terms of the ministry, it may require a difficult conversation. In situations like these, it is important to not only understand, but embrace the value of managerial courage.
If God has called you to serve in a position of ministry, he has called you to be courageous. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” Additionally, Ephesians 6:10 points toward the strength and power of God as He empowers you. You see, God has the strength and wisdom to use you, so fear is unnecessary!
